Loudoun Habitat for Humanity Welcomes New CEO

The Board of Directors of Loudoun Habitat for Humanity recently announced Judy Singer as the nonprofit’s new President and CEO. This announcement comes after the previous CEO, Therese Cashen, announced her retirement. Singer, a committed community leader with over 25 years nonprofit experience, is perfectly positioned to champion the organization’s mission to build homes, communities and hope.

“We are pleased to welcome Judy Singer as the next CEO of our affiliate,” said Rich Ruckman, Chair of the Board. “She will continue the work of our organization as we address the urgent and growing issue of attainable, decent housing in our community.”

Judy’s 25-years of dedicated service as a nonprofit executive and development officer in the Washington, DC metropolitan area has supported a diverse range of charitable causes. Throughout her career, she has helped strengthen the position of organizations where she has worked by forging strategic partnerships with individual donors, businesses, volunteers, foundations, government entities, Washington’s diplomatic corps and elected officials.

“For thirty years, Loudoun Habitat for Humanity has worked to increase the availability and affordability of safe and decent housing in the region,” commented Singer. “I am honored and excited to partner with the committed staff and board of Loudoun Habitat and expand the affiliate’s impact in our community.”

“The lack of affordable housing in the greater D.C. metro area is a crucial issue affecting many individuals and families. As our region rapidly grows, housing costs have skyrocketed, making it increasingly challenging for lower- and middle-income residents to find affordable housing. My hope is that we can make a dent in this landscape.”

Before assuming her current role as President and CEO of Loudoun Habitat for Humanity, Judy served as Senior Director at Fellowship Square Foundation in Reston, VA. It was here that she ignited her passion for tackling the critical issue of affordable housing. Prior to this, she developed her fundraising and nonprofit management skills at various organizations such as the World Affairs Council of Washington, DC, International Student House of Washington, DC, the Washington Choral Arts Society, Meridian International Center, and the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

Judy's commitment to community-building extends beyond her professional endeavors. She previously served as a board member of the American Turkish Association of Washington, DC, is a current board member of the Virginia Statewide Community Land Trust, the Reston Museum and is an advisory council member for the Cathy Hudgins Community Center in Reston, VA. raised in Reston, VA, Judy left to earn her B.A. degree from the University of Wisconsin – Madison with a major in Psychology, then lived overseas in Istanbul, Turkey followed by St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands, then returned back to her hometown of Reston where she raised her daughter. Her journey reflects her sincere commitment to service and her steadfast dedication to creating positive change within her community.

Singer succeeds Therese Cashen, who has served in the role since 2016. Therese will remain on staff working part-time on the affiliate’s communications and marketing efforts.
