Hilliard Family Dedication

Loudoun Habitat for Humanity is thrilled to announce the dedication of their 56th home in Loudoun County on August 1, 2020. At a private, socially distanced ceremony, Tishaminga (Tisha) and her 8-year-old daughter received the keys to their new home.

After some difficult circumstances, Tisha and her daughter moved into a two bedroom townhome with Tisha’s mother and have spent the last three years getting back on their feet. During her initial interview with Loudoun Habitat staff, Tisha explained that she is deeply thankful for her mother’s support throughout their situation. In fact, it was Tisha’s mother who encouraged her to apply to the Loudoun Habitat Homeownership Program. Tisha is thrilled because of her mother’s support and encouragement that she is finally in a stable financial situation where she can provide a stable home for herself and her daughter in a quiet and peaceful community.

Tisha has worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant in memory care for over five years and loves her work. During the COVID-19 pandemic Tisha has worked many extra hours to help keep the residents of her facility safe. She was recently quoted as saying “I believe we are going to make it through this time, and I believe we are all determined to keep our residents safe and healthy. We can do this!”.

It is this determination and positive outlook that has helped Tisha overcome challenges and achieve her goal of homeownership. Tisha has demonstrated these qualities as she completed her sweat equity hours (pre-COVID) not only on her future home, but also in another family’s future home. Talking about what she did to complete her sweat equity requirements, Tisha said, “I made a ramp for the shed. It was difficult but it was wonderful. I enjoyed it. It was a great experience and I think I would be able to build some more things.”

Thinking about her home purchase, Tisha commented, “I am most happy about making a home here for me and my daughter, a place where we can lay our head and be thankful. This truly is a blessing that we are able to purchase this home and to be a part of a wonderful community. We can grow older in this home and have a future.”
